Esso Raises Scholarships to Celebrate His Majesty’s 80th Birthday

Mongkolnimit Auacherdkul (3rd left), director and public affairs manager, Esso (Thailand) Public Company Limited, presented a 800,000-baht check to Asst. Prof. San Woraintara (2nd right), senior advisor for local wisdom development of the Office of the Higher Education Commission (O.H.E.C.), to raise the number of Esso-Rattanakosin Bicentennial Scholarships from 50 to 80 to celebrate H.M. the King’s 80th Birthday Anniversary. The 10,000-baht scholarships were given to 80 needy students in engineering, science, technology and energy fields from universities nationwide. The presentation ceremony was recently held at the conference room, the O.H.E.C. office in Bangkok.
Placing a great emphasis on education as a fundamental tool for human resources and national development, Esso, in conjunction with the Ministry of University Affairs, now restructured to be the O.H.E.C., established the Esso-Ratanakosin Bicentennial Fund in 1982. The fund was aimed to support needy university students in science and engineering fields. With an initial endowment of 1 million baht, Esso occasionally increased the fund to generate interest for scholarships every year. Since the beginning of the program, more than 1,200 scholarships, tatally worth about 8 million baht, have been awarded.
