ExxonMobil Supports 28th World Universities Debating Championship 2007-2008

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Varakorn Samakoses, deputy minister of education, presented a plaque to Lokman Baharuddin, human resources manager, ExxonMobil Limited, as the company has supported to the 28th World Universities Debating Championship (WUDC) 2007- 2008, organized by Assumption University for the first time in Thailand to honor His Majesty the King’s 80 Birthday Anniversary. The presentation ceremony was recently held at Assumption University Suvarnabhumi Campus.


ExxonMobil has a policy in promoting human resource development through education and training programs to promote national development. Verbal communication contributes to success in studies and work as it is vital for leadership and personal improvement, particularly for the youth. The company, therefore, supported the 28th WUDC 2007-2008, the largest university level academic competition in the world. The competition was held from December 27, 2007 to January 5, 2008.


About 400 teams from 183 leading educational institutes all over the world were selected to compete. Leading educational institutes are attending the competition including Oxford, Cambridge, Tokyo University, National University of Singapore, Monash, University of New South Wales, Yale University, Harvard College, Duke University, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.


There are four teams from Thailand: Chulalongkorn University, Thammasat University, Mahidol University and Khon Kaen University. Normally five Thai universities participate in the competition but Assumption University, as a host institute, could not participate according to the World Universities Debating Council's constitution.
