Support by Esso to “Skills Enhancement Center for Women Entrepreneurs” in Laem Chabang

Mr. Mongkolnimit Auacherdkul (3rd left), Director and Manager of Public and Government Affairs, Esso (Thailand) Public Company Limited presented a cheque for 2,000,000 baht to Mr. Mechai Viravaidya (3rd left), Chairman of the Population and Community Development Association (PDA) to further support the development of the “Skills Enhancement Center for Women Entrepreneurs” project in Laem Chabang area, Chon Buri province.

Research demonstrates that investing in opportunities for women delivers high returns in terms of economic and social development. Women entrepreneurs are vital to reducing poverty and driving economic growth. Esso has coordinated with the Population and Community Development Association (PDA) in establishing the “Skills Enhancement Center for Women Entrepreneurs” as part of the company’s Women’s Economic Opportunity Initiative.

This project covers 10 communities in Laem Chabang area near the Esso Sriracha refinery and provides coordination for training skills and supporting facilities to women entrepreneurs to improve their economic circumstances, business management skills and help to drive positive changes in their communities. Skill training includes cooking, handicraft product development and innovation. Esso contributed 4 million baht as initial funding in 2009 and a further 2 million baht this year to continue project development.
