aromatics & chemicals

chemical

Harnessing ExxonMobil’s unique proprietary technologies, we produce aromatics primarily in the form of Paraxylene, the feedstock for Purified Terephthalic Acid (PTA), the raw material for producing polyester film, packaging resin, and fabrics. In addition, much of the benzene concentrate stream that is produced by the aromatics plant is further processed to produce more Paraxylene.

Our aromatics plant produces Paraxylene, using reformate, mixed xylenes and hydrogen as feedstocks. It has a capacity of 500,000 tons per annum of paraxylene.

Our production volume of paraxylene is determined as part of our crude oil slate and product slate determination process using optimization modelling software.

Our aromatics and other chemical products are mainly sold to domestic commercial customers.

solvents
Our solvent production unit has a production capacity of 50,000 tons per annum, and produces :

  1. Hydrocarbon solvents, primarily Hexane, which is used mainly in edible oil seed extractions and as a carrier in petrochemical production.
  2. Rubber solvents used as adhesives and rubber cement used in the manufacture of tires.
  3. White spirits used primarily in the coating and paint industry, and
  4. Exxsol D80 used primarily in household and industrial and metal working applications.

We also import and market high aromatic solvents, which are used in the automotive paint coating industry and pesticides industry, and oxygenated solvents, primarily isopropyl alcohol, which are used in coating and resin application.

plasticizers
We produce and sell Phthalate ester plasticizers that are used as additives to increase the flexibility of Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC). We sell plasticizers under the JayflexTM brand name. We also import and resell a range of plasticizers.
